There seems to be many wu bea kias around lately. I really want to shout out, “KANNINABEICHAOCHEEBYELA,LANJIAOBINS~!” firstly, I think it’s the illers, the self proclaimed best hiphop group in Singapore. I must say that I have seen many of their performances. From the lee jeans show along orchard road to the latest being the krumping showcase at esplanade, I really don know whether to say that they are good or not. I don know, I really don agree with their concept on hiphop dancing, the 7 elements that they have been talking about since ages ago had always been the talking point for a long time. And the consensus that everyone came to is that it is crap. I’m very sure that if they were to explain their 7 elements of hiphop to the originators of this unique culture, there were to be only two outcomes, one, they would laugh their ass off, the second being that they will truly feel insulted for there are people who changed what they have created and redefining what hiphop truly is. For I believe that no matter how far the culture may evolve, everyone calling themselves part of a culture should learn about its roots and history. Not that I’m ignoring them saying that they live hiphop and breathe hiphop, but I feel insulted hearing them say that when they have no regards to the origins. In fact I remember practicing with Wilson light years back at tampines dome, it was actually the only time I felt that someone that good would be someone representing us bboys in the future. Until he told alex that the way he do his flares, he will never get them. and something about red being hiphop and black being something else, that’s why hes always dressed in red and black and he said something about his red and black shoes representing hiphop and how he has 6 pairs of them at home cause he will never outgrow his passion for hiphop. Then I saw him at years later at the orchard road with the illers performing. What caught my attention first was that their ‘mc’ announced that they are the best crew in Singapore and I simply had to stay and watch. Till I left halfway feeling cheated as an audience that I’m being led to believe that they are the best in Singapore. Plus I was rather puzzled at how Wilson had deproved. Hmmm, then I watched the youth thingy on u channel and heard him saying that he practice 3 hours a day, he writes down his ideas and moves that he created over this years that he have been ‘breaking’ (at least he got that right, he’s not bboying) and I heard him saying that he doesn’t do the easy stuff. And they show clips of him breaking at home and I see him doing handstand, sixstep to tombstone, normal windmills. No respect for you man. You are exactly the cause why people interested in bboying come and ask to learn powermoves with no basics, wanting to learn airflares with no knowledge of toprock, footwork and freezes. And you are the reason why people don appreciate the importance of getting their basics right and how it is that the simplest move like sixstep and toprock are the hardest to master. I really don know. Maybe its just me. I’m the poseur in this all. But I do know that I’m a bboy. And please do not insult what bboying really is.
